When Zak Brown was asked about when he will take a call on Ricciardo’s future with the team, he replied, “Probably later this year. We have another year together, we do like to think long out.”

“We are doing some testing with Pato. We’re going to do some testing with Colton. We’ve got Ugo in Formula 4, who put it on pole at his first race. So, I don’t think you can ever plan too early, but there’s no rush,” he further claimed.
Formula 1: A decision on Daniel Ricciardo’s future will be taken later this year, confirms Zak Brown.The Australian driver is in his second season with the Woking-based outfit and has had a tough start to his 2022 season. He battled for pace in the initial two rounds of the season but looked much better in the last two races in Australia and Imola, completing 6th in the former.
The 32-year-old’s agreement with McLaren is up toward the finish of 2023, and the common understanding of the situation is that that if his performances don’t improve, Ricciardo could be axed by the McLaren management.

IndyCar pair Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta have been connected with the McLaren seat and have both as of late have tried F1 vehicles. Meanwhile, there is also a ton of publicity around 15-year-old American Ugo Ugochukwu, who is contending in the British Formula 4 series this year. However, it is way too early for him to be in contention for a place in Formula 1.
Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta are the two candidates who could replace Daniel RicciardoHowever, Brown has backed Daniel to get back to his best, which could save him from taking the harsh call. On being asked about whether he feels the Australian will improve, Brown said “Yeah, I think for sure. His race days have been very strong, much better in qualifying.”
“Listening to him earlier this week with the team, I think he still doesn’t feel he’s 10 out of 10 on top of the car. But he has got a great relationship with Lando, he knows the team well,” Brown further explained.
