Formula 1: FIA teases new movie ‘When We Were Young’ starring F1 drivers ahead of French GP – Check Out

Formula 1: The FIA released a short teaser for an upcoming documentary including the ongoing drivers present on the grid discussing their initial memories of racing. All the 20 drivers are highlighted in the video glancing back at pictures of themselves from their childhoods. The film named ‘When We Were Young’ will be released on Thursday, July 21 at 5 pm CEST and will be displayed on the FIA’s YouTube channel. While each driver highlighted in the video, which is illuminated against a dark foundation with little orange lights, not all are given talking parts, in the trailer. The trailer opens with Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas expressing that the first time he attempted go-karting was the point at which he chose to be an F1 driver.

He is followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc uncovered that he had issues believing himself when he was young. Next is AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly who puts light on how important it is for a young driver to stay strong as there are ‘going to be many individuals en route letting you know it’s difficult to get it going’.

Then comes Mercedes’ new signing George Russell holding the renowned image of him as a youngster remaining behind his present teammate, Lewis Hamilton, when he was a McLaren driver. The Brit driver feels it is ‘surreal’ that the small kid is now a teammate with the seven-time F1 champion.

Meanwhile, speaking of the seven-time F1 World Champion, he likewise highlights and says a young driver must be energetic and be the one pursuing their dreams. A point Carlos Sainz, whose father is a previous World Rally Champion, agrees with and says, ‘To make sure they like the sport and not the dad.’

The reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen, whose father is also a known figure said, “At the end of the day if you can combine talent and hard work together, that’s where you become something special.”

As it is the French Grand Prix this end of the week, the FIA likewise delivered a subsequent video focusing on one of the two French drivers, Pierre Gasly. Gasly has progressed significantly since his growing-up days and joined the elite ‘race victors club’ when he won at Monza in 2020.

In a similar style as the past year, the 26-year-old is seen viewing a photograph of himself as a youngster and said at the time racing in F1 was ‘just a fantasy’. “This was just the start, so at that time it was only a dream. [Racing in F1] was very far away. [So] imagining one day I’ll be sitting here as F1 race winner and talking about this,” Gasly told in the clip.
