Ricciardo is still not losing hope after enduring a torrid start to the 2022 season. “I’m just being real – there haven’t been any strong signs [of a win] so far this year. But I don’t think anyone would have predicted me winning a race last year. That made it a really beautiful thing because it reminded me anything is possible, especially in this sport,” Ricciardo said.

“The higher up the grid I am, the happier I’ll be with the result. It’s just trying to get to a place where I’m performing consistently at a high level, especially with this car. That’s where I haven’t been able to do what I expected of myself, which is to get top sixes every weekend and not have many off weekends. Trying to eliminate those would be a basic goal for me,” Ricciardo added.

“Of course, to get back on the podium. At this point, it doesn’t even have to be a win. To get back on the podium and in the top three would be a nice one to have in the next few months,” Ricciardo further added.

The Australian is halfway through his second season with the team, yet his form keeps on dipping. His only high point in his McLaren career came when he won the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, and with this result, the team secured a 1-2 finish as Norris claimed the second spot.

Formula 1: Daniel Ricciardo won the 2021 Italian GP and Lando Norris finished second as McLaren secured a 1-2 finish.

All things considered, the 33-year-old has not scored points this season in way too many races and still struggles to get the best out of his MCL36 challenger. Meanwhile, his teammate Lando Norris identifies and comprehends the reason why it has been so challenging for the previous Red Bull and Renault racer.

Yet at the same time, he has the fearlessness to propose that more bright days are not far off. Ricciardo promised to track down additional consistency and supported himself to return to platform contention before the year’s end.

Moreover, Lando Norris is seventh overall in the drivers’ standings with 64 points and Daniel Ricciardo is reeling behind in the twelfth spot with just 17 points to his name.
