Formula 1: Alex Albon will drive for Williams in 2022: After a year on the sidelines, Alex Albon will be back on the F1 grid with Williams. Albon admits he had a backup plan if he wasn’t able to secure a seat for the 2022 season. Previously, he was driving with the Red Bull. Follow F1 Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Alex Albon said, “I did have a Plan A, which was clearly to be in Formula 1. Plan A was also at that point to be with Williams, and Plan B, Plan C was there. I went to IndyCar to have a look at it, and spoke with a few teams in Formula E as well.”

“Of course, just as a logical sense, you do have to keep those things in mind, because you never know what happens. The market is so tricky that you just have to keep your options open. Plan A was obviously the one that was strongest in my heart, and it was far above Plan B and Plan C.”

Alex Albon was strongly driven to get back in Formula 1. He was ‘extremely hungry to get back in F1.’ Alex further added, “I felt like I put everything I could into returning. I did everything I could to get a seat within Formula 1. 2021 was actually a busier year for me than any other year that I’ve raced in, which is quite weird to believe. But the hunger was there.”

“Of course, to get a seat or not get a seat comes down to timing, comes down to a lot of things, but I know that, on my side, I put everything towards it.” Alex was previously racing with the Red Bull team in 2020.

Alex joined Red Bull in the year 2019. He managed to score 76 points in his first outing with the Milton-Keyes team. Then in the year 2020, he finished third in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Alex also scored 105 points in the 2020 season but lost his seat to Sergio Perez.

Alex didn’t need to consider anything else as his F1 return was confirmed in September last year with Williams. He has hailed the bosses at Red Bull and the CEO of Williams, Jost Capito for his comeback.

He further added, “Fortunately, towards that [point in the] middle of the year, things started to look good, and talks started to happen. And that’s a big thank you to Christian Horner and Dr. Helmut Marko, but also Jost and everyone at Williams who got it to happen, and that was it.”

He will be teammates with Nicholas Latifi this year. Nicholas will be driving for Williams in his third consecutive year. The season kick starts in Bahrain from 18th to 20th March.
