“If we look at it from a mathematical standpoint and probability, I would probably say that the odds are eight-to-two. But this is motor racing and anything can happen.”

“Teams can DNF and if we unlock the potential of the car then we can arrive back in the game. So as a motor racer, I would say it is probably 40-60. As a mathematician, I would say the odds are worse against us.”

Mercedes have been unable to sort out its issues and are the third fastest car on the grid. Toto believes Mercedes could ‘unlock the potential’ of their W13 challenger. He has also warned their rivals as they could still suffer issues that would cost them points.

Formula 1: Toto Wolff believes Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have a 40% chance of winning the title.

Formula 1: Mercedes are second in the Constructors standings with just ten points ahead of their arch-rivals Red Bull. Meanwhile, George Russell also enjoys his second place in the Driver’s standings behind Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.

The German manufacturer have relied mostly on other teams’ misfortunes. They see themselves trailing Ferrari by 39 points. George Russell is 34 points behind the leader Charles Leclerc. Meanwhile, Red Bull suffered a double retirement at Bahrain Grand Prix and saw Verstappen retiring from the Australian Grand Prix as well.

Verstappen after his two retirements have thrown away at least 36 points as he was set for a P2 finish in both the races. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz also failed to score in Australia after retiring his car. Whereas, Russell enjoyed his third successive top-five finish in the 2022 season.

Formula 1: Hamilton and Russell have finished all three races and have secured points from each one of them. It is the only squad to do so in the top three as well. Russell after the Australian Grand Prix claimed the season would be based on ‘results not pace.’ He has also praised his team’s reliability.

The trackside engineering director for Mercedes Andrew Shovlin said, “But ultimately, we don’t have the underlying car pace to race them. Even if our degradation was probably a little better. At this stage of the championship, we’re focused on just two things, damage limitation, and learning.”
