Fernando Alonso displays special Samurai Helmet for the Japanese GP at Suzuka

Fernando Alonso loves the Japanese GP and the Suzuka Circuit. This year, he has unveiled a new helmet for the grand prix. Take a look at the Aston Martin driver’s new lid as he hopes to find some form again.

Fernando Alonso is one of the biggest legends of Formula 1. He loves the Japanese GP and the Suzuka circuit. The Aston Martin driver will fondly remember his amazing performances here, including the move on Michael Schumacher on the outside of 130R. After his first non-points finish of the year at the Singapore GP, he will look to bounce back.

The Lid

Coming to the lid, Fernando Alonso has incorporated the essence of Japan beautifully. His helmet for the Japanese GP features traditional a Japanese black-and-white colour scheme. It also features two red circles, symbolizing the country’s national flag.

The helmet features traditional Japanese houses and the iconic Torii gates from Japan. Additionally, it features a Samurai at the back. Long-time Fernando Alonso fans will know that the samurai in the helmet is the same as the tattoo he has.

Insidesport

Fernando Alonso professed his love for the Samurai mentality in a tweet from 2012:

“If breaks the sword, fight with your hands. If they cut your hands, push the enemy with your shoulders, even with your teeth”

A Grand Prix to Forget

Fernando Alonso has been enjoying life since he moved to Aston Martin. The Spaniard has had an excellent Formula 1 season in 2023, scoring 7 podiums. However, after Canada, Aston Martin have seen a dip in their performances.

This came to a head at the Singapore GP. Everything that could go wrong went wrong for Fernando Alonso. The car lacked pace in general. He made an uncharacteristic mistake during the pit entry and was penalized. During the VSC, he came in to change his tyres and had a very long pitstop.

All this meant that Fernando Alonso classified second-last, ahead of only George Russell who crashed but was classified. The Singapore GP was the first Grand Prix this year where he failed to score.
