This comes after 43 track restrictions violations were recorded at the Red Bull Ring at the Austrian Grand Prix last week. Also, lap times were deleted during qualifying, most notably Sergio Perez lost his Q2 lap time after qualifying ended.

“The track limits debate this weekend has been a bit of a joke, not only in F1 but in F2 and F3,” said Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

He also said: “I don’t think we should have this, ah you went 1mm over, that’s a penalty or whatever. Then just add a wall or bring some gravel back. It doesn’t look good for the sport as well.”

Sebastien Vettel, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris, and Guanyu Zhou were among those who received five-second-time penalties for exceeding the three permissible track limits violations.

Horner claims that because Paul Ricard offers more opportunities to gain lap time than the Red Bull Ring, it will be more inviting for going off-track, thus Le Castellet’s racetrack is not the most popular event on the calendar. “I think the problem is the nature of the circuit invites the drivers to use the track limits,” Horner said.

Mick Schumacher too acknowledged that track limits had been “a very big problem” during the Austrian GP and it was still “something to be discussed”.
