The last two year’s haven’t seen any Grand Prix action as Lewis Hamilton won the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix in rather a controversial manner. Hamilton saw the chequered flag in the second position but Vettel was relegated in live classification and it meant that Hamilton, who was 1.3 seconds ahead of the German was awarded the win.

When was the track built?

The man-made Notre Dame Island in the St Lawrence River was made for the Expo 67 World’s Fair in the year 1967. When the exhibition and the resulting 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics had left town, a few shrewd individuals chose to make a race track out of the island’s streets. When was its first Grand Prix?

With the Canadian Grand Prix having been looking for a super durable home for various years during the 1960s and 1970s, the Circuit Ile Notre-Dame originally facilitated the race in 1978. Fittingly, Gilles Villeneuve asserted his first triumph, at the track that would wind up bearing his name.
