F1 Azerbaijan GP: Ferrari dealt with huge blow as Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz retired in Baku: It was rather an unusual day for Ferrari as both their drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz retired from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Firstly it was Carlos Sainz who retired from the race on lap 9 due to a hydraulic issue. He went onto the escape road as he was not able to reverse his car and begin with the race. Moreover, it was the third DNF that the Spaniard registered in the 2022 season.

Then came the turn of the Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc who had to retire from the race on lap 20. The reason for his retirement was an issue with the power unit as smoke started coming out of his car.

Meanwhile, it was the second DNF that Leclerc registered against his name in the 2022 season. Ferrari have got a car that is up against the likes of Red Bull but their reliability issues have haunted them.

Moreover, with the duo retiring from the race and Red Bull claiming the 1-2 finish in Baku, the Austrian team have been handed an advantage in both the drivers’ and constructors’ standings.

F1 Azerbaijan GP: Red Bull claimed 1-2 in the form of Verstappen and Perez, Mercedes’ Russell took the third spot in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Leclerc drops down to the third spot in the drivers’ standings and now sees himself 34 points behind Max Verstappen. Furthermore, Red Bull extends their lead at the front in the constructors’ standings and are now 80 points ahead of the second-placed Ferrari.

If Ferrari needs to fight for the titles this season, then they will have to sort out their reliability issues. Red Bull were facing similar issues in the starting races but they found a way to cure their problems.
