‘Do not make any rule changes for 2024’, Christian Horner begs Formula 1

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has publicly stated that Formula 1 should not change any rules for 2024. He is confident teams will catch up.

Red Bull, under Christian Horner, find themselves alone at the top of the Formula 1 ladder. Their team has nailed the current regulations and has been untouchable in 2023. Max Verstappen is operating like a robot and shows no signs of slipping anytime soon. Mercedes and Ferrari find themselves far behind, and facing a challenge from Aston Martin and a resurgent McLaren.

The Pack is close behind Red Bull

Christian Horner was quick to point out how close the Formula 1 pack is behind Red Bull. He mentioned how every race, when they look over their shoulders, it’s someone different. And he isn’t wrong.

Mercedes has consistently been there and thereabout while being the second-fastest at a few tracks. Aston Martin had found themselves near the top at the beginning of the season but have since fallen off. Ferrari has been second-quickest at times. And McLaren’s latest upgrades have put them right in the hunt.

All this does little to hide the fact that their winning margins to non-Red Bull cars have been comfortable, to say the least. Apart from late safety cars and pit stops, only Canada saw them have a narrow margin of victory. Adrian Newey and his team have designed a beast, and they have a monster behind the wheel in Max Verstappen.

What’s worrying Horner?

Recently, the FIA has been quick to step in to prevent a team from having a huge advantage over others. They handicapped Mercedes after 2020 by banning the DAS system and tweaking the floor regulations for 2021. Even last year, they made slight changes to the ride height of the cars, among other things.

Christian Horner is worried that this dominant run by Red Bull will prompt the FIA to take some action. He believes they will be inclined to change the rules to close the pack up. This is why he is highlighting how all the teams are converging and the FIA shouldn’t interfere.

Will there be any changes to the regulations in 2024? Will a team take the fight to Red Bull? Keep following us to find out.
