COVID-19 crisis: Amid the COVID-19 crisis that impacted the world in a bizarre manner, sports stadiums are being used as vaccine camps to ensure the citizens are vaccinated at the earliest and normality returns as soon as possible. After the cancellation of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Montreal due to COVID-19 risk, the Canadian city will be used to vaccinate bicyclists and later motorists who can drive up for shorts.

Initially, around 1,000 cyclists per day will get vaccinated against COVID-19 at Gilles-Villeneuve circuit during May 29-30, Quebec health official Sonia Belanger told the media.  Motorists will be allowed onto the track to get vaccines in the first two weekends of June, she said.

Quebec is one of the Canadian provinces that has been hit hard by the pandemic. The country has registered nearly half of 25,000 fatalities.

Earlier, Olympic Stadium in Montreal had previously offered vaccinations.

Last week, The Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley had written to the state government, offering the premises of the Arun Jaitley Stadium to be used as a vaccination site in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier this month, Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack had turned into a vaccination centre for better crowd management to combat the spread of COVID-19.

COVID-19 crisis: Last month, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta was chosen as a mass vaccination site. As per a report, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will continue to be the only vaccine used at this site. The stadium reported earlier this month that it crossed the 200,000 vaccinations threshold.

Earlier, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles was used as a mass vaccination site.

It is notable that the Indian government has now made the vaccine available for all citizens who are 18 or above. The country is grappling through the second wave of COVID-19 cases with over 3 lakh cases and nearly 4000 fatalities every single day.
