Battle of Honour? Carlos Sainz’s mother & Charles Leclerc engage in Twitter War

Carlos Sainz’s mother and Charles Leclerc have engaged in a Twitter war after the Italian GP. Will this boil over on the track? Only time will tell.

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc had a heated battle in the later stages of the Italian GP. The Ferrari teammates were running 3rd and 4th and both wanted to finish on the podium at Monza. This led to a lot of tense moments. However, things have since soured online after Carlos’ mother liked a tweet disrespecting Charles Leclerc. What happened next set the Formula 1 world abuzz. Read on to learn more.

Twitter Feud online

A few days after the Italian GP, Carlos Sainz’s mother, Reyes Vazquez de Castro, liked a tweet. The tweet stated Charles Leclerc didn’t have any honour, and congratulated Carlos Sainz for shutting up many mouths.

However, the feud then escalated. Charles Leclerc liked a tweet of his win for Ferrari at the Italian GP in 2019 with the caption ‘Honor’. Clearly, he is not impressed with the actions of someone so closely related to Carlos Sainz.

A Tense Fight at the Italian GP

Carlos Sainz started on pole for the Italian GP. For the entire race, the Spaniard had to defend from someone. First, it was Max Verstappen, then Sergio Perez, and in the closing stages, it was his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc.

The two drivers kept going at each other for several laps in a row. Carlos Sainz had chewed through his tyres while trying to defend from the Red Bulls. However, the deficit was not big enough to make Charles Leclerc’s life easy. Both drivers locked multiple times into turn 1, including a massive lockup by Leclerc as he divebombed in the final lap.

However, Carlos Sainz kept up his staunch defense and Charles Leclerc had to settle for fourth. The entire world of Formula 1 loved this fight, except the Ferrari team and fans of course. It was quite reminiscent of the Red Bull battle at Azerbaijan in 2018, which ended in disaster.

The world of Formula 1 is very small. Will this Twitter feud create a rift at Ferrari? Can Ferrari afford to have a rift when they are trying to get back to the top? Only time will tell. There are 10 days for things to cool down or overheat before the Singapore GP.
