Azerbaijan GP: Formula 1: It was a disappointing day for Mercedes at the Baku circuit as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell from Mercedes could only achieve fifth and eleventh place, respectively in qualifying. George Russell showed his frustration after his Q2 exit in the qualifying race. Mercedes and its ray of hope were not in good condition after the qualifying race. Swearing on his performance, Russell brutally exclaimed, “Ahhhh ****, sugar. What happened to the pace this weekend, guys? Another chance tomorrow.”
While Charles Leclerc of Ferrari was able to secure the top position on the podium, the Red Bull duo was fairly competitive to land second and third. Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were able to maintain their pace and were seen as confident. Finally, Carlos and Hamilton completed the top five, giving strong competition to each other at the end.

Mercedes has been facing challenges in securing any titles this season, which makes the upcoming game appear less promising. In the Australian GP, Hamilton only managed to secure second place, while his partner Russell is yet to produce any notable results. Even though the seven-time world champion secured the fifth spot in the qualifying round, he urged his team to persevere and continue working hard, as there is still a lot of work to be done.
Meanwhile, a disappointed Russell said, “Of course I want to win two races, three races, ten races, but if I ended my career with one win or ten wins, and no world championships, the difference is nothing.” When asked if he still believes in Mercedes, he responded, “I truly believe Mercedes are the best in the business. It’s all about coming together to push forward.”
After a stunning first season with Mercedes, Russell has struggled so far this season and hasn’t been able to get any podium finishes. The British driver finished seventh in Bahrain and fourth in Saudi Arabia but retired in the Australian GP.
