Australian GP: Mercedes coming out with major upgrades to help Lewis Hamilton’s cause: Mercedes is all set to bring an upgrade package to the Australian Grand Prix this year. The Silver Arrows team wants to get Lewis Hamilton’s title race back on the track. Hamilton has had a worse start to the 2022 Formula 1 season. According to the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, Mercedes will bring a new ‘rear-wing design.’ They will sport this new rear wing design at the Australian Grand Prix for both their cars.

Mercedes had poor Pre-season Testings at Barcelona and Bahrain. But, Hamilton secured a third-place finish followed by George Russell in fourth at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Meanwhile, both the Red Bull cars had to retire and the reason was an issue with the fuel pump.

In the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton first got eliminated after the Q1 session. He last failed and got eliminated after the Q1 session in 2017 at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Lewis started the race in the fifteenth position but only managed a tenth-place finish. But, his teammate Russell finished the race in the fifth position behind the Red Bulls and Ferrari’s.

In the last race, Mercedes struggled throughout the weekend. Their car was not able to find any real race pace. Plus their up-gradation has been halted due to Porpoising.

Mercedes even got the ‘sidepod-less’ design at both the Pre-season Testings. It was seen as a revolutionary change by many in the sport. However, this wasn’t the case for Mercedes as they struggled with ground effect cars and Porpoising.

George Russell even gave an important suggestion to cure this problem. He wanted active suspension back in the sport. With this, they could have cured 99% of their problems. Hamilton labeled his car ‘undriveable’ at the Jeddah circuit.

The ‘rear-wing’ changes could be made successful and be implemented at the Australian Grand Prix. Its main focus would be on the downforce with improving the Porpoising issue. But, it’s hard for Mercedes to rectify the problems in a short span of time without sacrificing the performance of the car in other aspects.

Lewis Hamilton is currently fifth in the Drivers’ standings with 16 points. George Russell is fourth in the Drivers’ standings with 22 points. The Australian Grand Prix starts on 8th April and the race will be on 10th April.
