Alfa Romeo Racing is a team in flux right now. The team is actually Sauber, who have given their naming rights to Alfa Romeo. Audi will enter Formula 1 by taking over Sauber in 2026, a process that has already begun. Andreas Seidl has taken over the long-term project, leaving McLaren in the process. Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu have found things tough on track.
Their Season So Far
Alfa Romeo has had a pretty anonymous season so far. Both their drivers have been nowhere in most races and barely made an impression. Off-track, Fred Vasseur’s departure left a gap for a team principal. Initially, people thought Andreas Seidl would take over the role. However, he has essentially taken over the long-term Audi project which will come to fruition in 2026. In the meantime, he has appointed Alessandro Alunni Bravi as the team representative for Formula 1.
Alfa Romeo started 2022 brilliantly. Their early season dominance helped them finish 6th in the standings, level on points with an improving Aston Martin. While Aston Martin has continued its upward trajectory this season, Alfa Romeo has unfortunately continued its downward one. They currently sit 9th in the standings, just 6 points ahead of Alpha Tauri.

Driver Performances
This is mainly due to their drivers. Valtteri Bottas has continued to be consistent, although he has largely been way outside the points. However, whenever the car has been quick, he has been in the hunt for points.
Alfa Romeo should be pleased with how Zhou Guanyu has developed this season. The Chinese driver has actually given Valtteri a run for his money. Valtteri is known for being extremely quick on a Saturday. Yet, Zhou has managed to out-qualify him regularly in 2023. His highlight was a P5 qualifying in Hungary. However, he was involved in a shunt in the race.
How has the car evolved?
Alfa Romeo have been tough to judge this season. They have struggled to put together a clean weekend for both of their drivers. They will be keen to not finish last, especially with Audi knocking on the door.

Predictions
With Alpha Tauri also getting a consistent driver, Alfa Romeo will have a bigger challenge. The points gap is so small that one wild race can determine their season. They will be looking for a better car as Audi has started getting more involved.
