Alex Albon is leading a resurgence of both him and Williams in Formula 1. The Williams FW45 is much better in the corners than its predecessor while maintaining its slippery straightline speed. After leaving the Red Bull stable, Alex has slowly grown into the team leader role here. With a lot of support from Team Principal James Vowles, he is flourishing in 2023 like no one else.
Defensive Driving Masterclass
At Williams, Alex Albon has become a tyre whisperer. He showcased these skills last year itself, when he raced the entire Australian GP with just one set of hards. This year, he has combined his skills with the Williams straight-line speed.
Alex Albon has put in amazing qualifying performances. This means he has often found himself ahead of much faster cars. However, he has been able to maintain his position because of his superior speed. But it’s evident in races like Zandvoort that the Williams FW45 is good in the corners as well.

20 Points in the Last 7 Races
Alex Albon has scored 20 points in the last 7 races, outscoring the likes of Lance Stroll. Much of it has been down to a similar strategy: Get track position by qualifying well or undercutting, and make your car as wide as possible.
Alex Albon has done both. He has continued to make it into Q3 and managed to make alternative tyre strategies work. After 10 races, he had the same number of Q3 appearances as Sergio Perez, who is in a Red Bull!
James Vowles Heaps Praise on Alex Albon
“He should be aiming for winning races and being on the podium. He has the potential and he frankly deserves to be in that position. But more so that’s a journey he’s happy to do with Williams, whilst we’re on the pathway towards it at the same time.”
“That’s the perfect summary of that situation. He’s a racing driver coming to the peak of his career, he should absolutely be focused on doing the best he can with his God-given ability, while it still exists.”
