“We could set it up, we could tune it, we could play around with the settings and it would respond in a way that was predictable. And the same couldn’t be said for the car that we had in the first five races of the season. We have to temper our expectations. It’s one track, a track that has suited our car for many years prior to this one. There’s a lot for us to understand and learn,” Vowles added.
“The difference now is, that we have a car that’s within touching distance of the front. And a car that we can fight for a championship with,” he further assured the fans by saying.
Mercedes added a new winglet to their car which helped them in developing further airflow. They even added a minute change to the outer edge of the car which helped their car’s performance and even added a new floor to the W13 challenger.

With these changes, they massively reduced their porpoising issues that hampered them during the course of the season so far. It looked like the team was nearing the race pace they desired and cut the deficit with Ferrari and Red Bull. George Russell managed to finish P3 in Spain and Lewis Hamilton showed great improvement to finish P5 after dropping down to P19.
