Formula 1: Toto Wolff says Lewis Hamilton-George Russell duo is the best Mercedes pair: The team principal of Mercedes Toto Wolff made a big claim just ahead of the highly-awaited Spanish GP. According to the Mercedes team principal, ‘Lewis Hamilton-George Russell’ duo is the best Mercedes pair of all time. He said this while they were in the United States for the Miami Grand Prix. The Austrian added, “When you look at George’s track record in winning the title in F3, in his rookie year, and then in F2, we knew that he was very good.” He further claimed that getting Russell in Mercedes was a no-brainer, as he always knew “how good he was.”

Meanwhile, Toto is impressed with Russell’s work style as well as with his on-track performances too. The Brit is the only driver so far in the 2022 season to have finished all five races in the top five places.

Russell has been driving incredibly well and even has finished above Hamilton this season. Many have claimed the youngster to be currently Mercedes’ best driver given Lewis Hamilton’s poor form, but Wolff is not ready to accept that.

The team principal has backed the seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and says it’s only the bad luck that the Brit is going through. He was even unlucky at Imola after getting stuck in the traffic and the DRS train.

However, Wolff has further claimed that both Hamilton and Russell are enjoying each other’s company. “ I enjoy seeing them working together, the level is high from both of them,” he concluded.
