Driving the Ferrari 312 B3 at the Historic Grand Prix, the Monegasque driver was looking fairly comfortable but he had an unfortunate shunt in the last corner. Approaching La Rascasse, Leclerc lost the rear end of the car owing to a brake pedal failure. Subsequently, the car skidded backwards and went straight into the barriers, completely damaging the rear end of the iconic car.

The Austrian driver did not win the championship, as Emerson Fittipaldi won the ultimate crown that season.
However, Lauda came fourth behind Fittipaldi, Regazzoni and Jody Scheckter, which was an incredible achievement for a rookie. He even won two races – in Madrid and in Zandvoort. Later on, Lauda went on to win three world championships to be crowned as one of the best drivers to have ever graced this sport.
