Formula 1: Red Bull keeps on trolling Lewis Hamilton as Helmut Marko believes Hamilton should have retired last year: Red Bull keeps on taking digs at Lewis Hamilton for his poor performance so far in the 2022 season, as now team advisor Helmut Marko has said the seven-time Formula 1 champion should have retired at the end of last season itself. Hamilton has had a disastrous start to the 2022 season and just accumulated 28 points from four races. Follow Formula 1 updates on InsideSport.IN.

When asked by Sky Sports his thought process is going through Hamilton’s head right now, Marko grinned and said, “I mean, he was lapped by us (in Imola GP). Maybe he should have stopped last year, he is thinking! Maybe.”

Hamilton has not adjusted well to the 2022 Mercedes car, which is significantly slower than Red Bull and Ferrari because of the terrible porpoising issues, and his problems reached the peak in Sunday’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, where Hamilton was lapped by rival Max Verstappen.

The British driver trudged along to come P13 and said it was one of his worst drives throughout his star-studded career. After the race, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff apologized to Hamilton over the radio, conceding the vehicle was ‘undriveable.’

Meanwhile, though Hamilton’s George Russell came P4, he too has opened up on the severity of the porpoising issue. Russell even complained about chest and back pain after finishing the race.

Wolff said Hamilton merits better from the vehicle. “We are not good enough for a world champion, not worthy for a world champion. We just need to fix the car. Lewis deserves better from us. But we are a team, so we all need to do the upmost in order to provide him with a machine that is able to fight for the front positions,” he claimed.
