George wants to prove his credentials as a potential Formula 1 champion after making the switch from Williams to the Silver Arrows team. He had performed amazingly in his last opportunity while driving for the Mercedes.

George Russell replaced Lewis Hamilton in the Sakhir Grand Prix in 2020. He was looking set to secure his maiden F1 victory. But he was denied due to a pit stop error and a puncture.

It was this race that impressed everyone at Mercedes. The Silver Arrows choose him to replace Valtteri Bottas for the 2022 season. Russell earned his first podium last year in Spa as he finished 2nd.

The weather was also affected the day before in the qualifying, but Russell showed his skill and speed in the rainy weather. He qualified ahead of Lewis Hamilton and the other 18 drivers on the grid.

George was driving for Williams at that time which had a not-so-fast car as compared to the other teams. But he was so quick on the flying lap that only Max Verstappen could outdo his time. There were no doubts about his ability but the car that he was driving was not able to compete at the front.

Now that he will drive for Mercedes, who have the fastest car on the grid from the past eight seasons. Russell will have pressure on his shoulders to show that he is capable of delivering such results over the course of the season.

Russell has spoken of his ambitions in the past and his belief of becoming a world champion. He is still backing himself against the likes of Lewis Hamilton and the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen.

George plans of making it big and score points in the first race of the upcoming 2022 season. When asked in a video released by Mercedes sponsors Petronas when will you get your first podium with the team, Russell replied, “Race one – Bahrain Grand Prix”.

The 2022 season will start from Bahrain on March 20th. It will be the curtain-raiser for a season that is going to be unpredictable thanks to the new technical rules.
