Mercedes had a horrendous time in Imola, where they saw arch-rivals Red Bull taking the top two places with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished as low as P13, and while his teammate George Russell came P4, he has now complained of chest pain because of the severity of Mercedes’ ‘bouncing problem’, also called porpoising in racing terms.

“The bouncing, it really takes your breath away. It’s the most extreme I’ve ever felt it. I really hope we find a solution and I hope every team struggling with the bouncing finds a solution, because it’s not sustainable for the drivers to continue,” Russell said after the race.
“This is the first weekend I’ve truly been struggling with my back, and almost like chest pains from the severity of the bouncing,” he further added, opening up on how the porpoising issue is taking a physical toll on both him and Hamilton.

Mercedes car not worthy of Lewis Hamilton – Toto Wolff
Despite Russell bagging good points for the team, Mercedes has called this race ‘terrible’, specifically because of what happened with Lewis Hamilton. The British driver was stuck behind Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly all throughout the race and at one stage, he was even lapped by the same Max Verstappen against whom he was fighting for the world title only a few months ago.
Toto Wolff feels the current Mercedes car is not worthy of Lewis HamiltonAdmitting his team’s faults, Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff said “We are not good enough for a world champion (Lewis Hamilton) – not worthy for a world champion – we just need to fix the car. The guy is the best driver in the world and he is not having a machine and equipment underneath him to be able to execute.”
