Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger recently claimed that Russell ‘will soon get on Lewis’ nerves.’ However, Mercedes’ team principal has adamantly stated that both the drivers are working together to get Mercedes back to winning ways, and there is a great bond between the two drivers from Britain.

“The cooperation of our drivers is one of the few highlights of this season. There is no tension, just productive work,” Wolff said.

Toto apologized to Hamilton after the Imola Grand Prix as the Brit finished in the thirteenth position as he believes that Hamilton was driving an ‘undrivable’ car in the traffic and it’s the car that should get the blame and not the driver. Mercedes has been supportive of Hamilton in such tough times, but with the car not showing any signs of development, many think the seven-time world champion could look for other opportunities.

“This situation is definitely not the fault of the drivers. Lewis is the best driver in the world, he just doesn’t have the car to show that at the moment. And then it doesn’t matter if he finishes eighth or thirteenth,” Wolff clarified.

Formula 1: Toto Wolff denies rumours of RIFT between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

“But we’re talking about a seven-time world champion here. I don’t know any of the great drivers who didn’t have a difficult phase. He will help us work our way out of this,” he further elaborated.

Meanwhile, Hamilton finds himself down in the seventh position after Lando Norris finished on the podium at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, while George Russell is comfortably sitting in the fourth position in the Drivers’ standings with 49 points to his name.
