There have been some speculations that if Daniel doesn’t step up his game in the 2022 season. Then, he might not stay at McLaren for the 2023 season. However, Zak Brown didn’t hint at anything of that nature at all.
Brown also responded to a question where he was asked about Pato O’Ward. Whether he would be in contention for a Formula 1 spot. Pato right now races for the Arrow McLaren SP team in IndyCar. He also drove in Formula 1 at the end-of-season test in Abu Dhabi last year.

Brown admitted that it was difficult for Ricciardo and the other Arrow McLaren SP driver, Felix Rosenqvist. “To struggle as they did last year at the same time their team-mate skyrocketed.”
Pato O’Ward is set to have a couple of FP1 outings this year for McLaren. It will happen only if the IndyCar commitments allow. It is done for teams to polish a rookie driver on two occasions in the initial Friday practice session. Brown also said that there is ‘another IndyCar driver in consideration’ but didn’t reveal his name.
Zak concluded, “I know Lando did the extension. But I have an option there and I feel quite strongly we are in this together. And even though some of the lows last year I was still really enjoying this McLaren environment and the team. So it’s an environment I want to have success in and thrive in.”
