He is set to be fit in time for the Bahrain Grand Prix, but not being able to test the MCL36 car in the Pre-season testing will prove quite a difficult task for the Australian driver as the Bahrain GP begins on 18th March. The McLaren driver felt unwell on Wednesday, the day before running at the Bahrain International Circuit began, and initially returned negative tests. However on Friday, after day two of the test was completed, McLaren revealed the Australian has now returned a positive PCR test. The team say he is continuing to isolate in accordance with local regulations.
Better this week than next…
Unfortunate to miss the test, but I’m starting to feel better. I’ll stay isolated and just focus on next weekend.

They added: “Under these regulations Daniel will be released in time for next weekend’s Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. Daniel is already beginning to feel better, and we wish him well for a quick recovery.”

Ricciardo missed the first two days of the Pre-season Testing in Bahrain as he was ill. McLaren is now in the backseat as Daniel will have no experience of the MCL36 car. Although, he tested the car in Barcelona, but with the season starting on 20th March, this proves to be fatal for McLaren’s hopes for a third finish with rivals Ferrari on their toes.
