Former F1 driver Marc Surer recently said, “It doesn’t really seem that the team (Aston Martin) can become champion. Then why does he need all this? I see him fulfilling the contract and saying goodbye. Aston Martin was his last chance, and it doesn’t work there either.”

“The fact that he returned from having coronavirus to continue to race speaks for itself. He is trying to help the team, and push it forward, and there are signs of progress. Vettel is doing his job. He could have just given up and no one would have been mad at him for it, except maybe the team,” the former Brabham driver further said.

Surer clarified his stance by saying that why he feels Vettel still is a very good driver, battling for mere 1-2 points will not satisfy a four-time world champion like him. “The question is motivation. Can the battle for tenth place motivate a four-time world champion? It’s hard to say,” concluded Surer.
Vettel missed the first two races of the 2022 season after testing positive for Covid-19. He returned for the third race at the Australian Grand Prix and suffered a retirement at Albert Park. The veteran driver then showed his class at Imola after finishing eighth and claiming four points for the team.

However, the inaugural Miami Grand Prix saw Vettel and Schumacher crash in the latter part of the race leaving the German with his second DNF of the season. A driver of his caliber might not just drive for a team that sees itself ninth in the Constructors’ standings.
