“As with the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine. And it wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict.”

Uralkali is owned by Nikita Mazpein’s father, Dmitry Mazepin. Haas dropped the Uralkali branding from their cars during the last day of pre-season testing in Barcelona. Team principal Guenther Steiner had said at the time they were “financially ok”.

Nikita Mazepin who is 23 years old, had raced for just one season with Haas but failed to register a point in the championship. Haas’ decision follows championship promoters Formula One’s announcement on Thursday that they had terminated a contract with the organizers of the Russian Grand Prix.

The Black Sea resort of Sochi has hosted the race since the first running in 2014 but Saint Petersburg was due to replace it as the venue in 2023.

“Formula 1 can confirm it has terminated its contract with the Russian Grand Prix promoter meaning Russia will not have a race in the future,” Formula One said in a statement.

Now, Pietro Fittipaldi is the go-to person who can replace Nikita Mazepin at Haas. It will be the Brazilian who gets to test the car at the Bahrain Pre-season testing. Fittipaldi is the reserve driver for Haas in 2022 but now can get the call up to be their driver.

Pietro is the grandson of two-time F1 champion, Emerson Fittipaldi, who retired in 1980. Pietro is a double Indy 500 winner and also stepped in for Romain Grosjean for two races in 2020 when he crashed at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
