Surprisingly, Russell is doing much better for Mercedes this season than seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, and his Williams stint could be the responsible for it. After failing to qualify for the Q3 session at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix Russell said, “It’s just been difficult, really difficult position for us as a team. Perhaps with my struggles at Williams driving very difficult cars, maybe that’s helped in some small regard.”

“And it’s Q1 and Q2 now for us is massively important. Whereas previously for Mercedes that was a breeze. It was almost like a build-up session getting ready for Q3,” Russell further added, reminiscing old times at Williams where getting into Q2 seemed like a big achievement.

This season has started on a disastrous note for Hamilton with Mercedes’ descending performance in terms of speed and execution. But thankfully for the Silver Arrows, on an individual level, Russell has outperformed Hamilton in every single race and has adjusted well to the car.

He has driven the W13 challenger on a different level as compared to Hamilton. Meanwhile, Russell gets the best out of it whenever he is on the track as Hamilton struggles to keep up the pace. Meanwhile, Russell feels Hamilton will surely come back stronger after his failures.

“He’s (Lewist) definitely going to push me all the way. I think in terms of results we’re definitely getting the most out of it and things have definitely fell our way in these first four races. It gives me and I’m sure it gives the team confidence that when the car improves, we’ll be there to get even more points on the board. But as I said before this weekend, we can’t sustain this level of these results if we’re in the pace where we are,” Russell concluded.

The seven-time title holder was supposed to take his new partner to the cleaners by many, but the reality has turned out to be exactly the opposite. However, Russell proved everybody wrong and put on another amazing showcase last time at Imola to guarantee the fourth spot, while Hamilton ended up a horrendous P13.
