The seven-time Formula One world champion had revealed in a podcast how he was racially abused in school. He opened up about School being the most traumatizing and most difficult part of his life. To face such racism in such a line and sport is completely unacceptable.

After receiving the support from his colleagues, Hamilton mentioned how backed up he feels and for the first time that he felt like he didn’t alone stand alone in the sport.

Piquet issued a grovelling apology for his comments, which he insisted weren’t racist. He said: “I would like to clear the stories circulating in the media about a comment I made in an interview last year.

“I would never use the word I have been accused of in some translations. I strongly condemn any suggestion that the word was used by me with the aim of belittling a driver because of his skin colour.

“I apologise wholeheartedly to anyone that was affected, including Lewis, who is an incredible driver, but the translation in some media that is now circulating on social media is not correct. Discrimination has no place in F1 or society and I am happy to clarify my thoughts in that respect.”

But this apology by Piquet wasn’t enough to stop him from getting banned from the F1 paddock

“Let’s focus on changing the mindset. It’s more than language. These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport,” Sir Lewis said of Piquet’s comments

The Brazilian website Grande Premio, however, has accessed a full copy of all that was said during the podcast. After Nelson Piquet’s racial slur against Hamilton had come to light on Monday, the seven-time champion gave a reaction on social media. Piquet was later condemned by F1, FIA, several drivers, and other big names in the paddock including Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton had previously also chastised his teammates for keeping mute on social media following the murder of George Floyd, and singled out Romain Grosjean, the former director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, for failing to persuade the grid to unify on the issue of kneeling.

Hamilton said he will continue to make the gesture before races this season, and he was joined by a handful of drivers last weekend in Bahrain, while others chose to stand. Hamilton donned a T-shirt with the message: “Actions speak louder than words”.
