Formula 1: Romain Grosjean claims Red Bull priorities Max Verstappen over Sergio Perez: Former F1 driver Romain Grosjean, who currently drives in IndyCar 500 feels that Red Bull prioritizes Max Verstappen over Sergio Perez as the dutch driver continued his great run of form after winning his sixth race of the season. Grosjean feels Perez is no match for Verstappen and he had no hopes of challenging the Dutch driver due to the team politics. “No, Max is the number one and Sergio is number two. That is the way Red Bull has always worked and all the radio communications you get in the race, even in Baku, the message to Perez was ‘no fighting’,” Grosjean said.

“I mean, he was leading the race, why wouldn’t he fight to keep the lead? It is very clear at Red Bull and, to be fair, Max has done such an incredible job for the team, that it is kind of normal that he has the priority,” Grosjean added.
Verstappen is currently leading in the title race as he is 46 points clear of his closest opponent after only nine races as the victor of five of the last six races. That second-put competitor is Perez, who arose in the chase to become champion after his Monaco Grand Prix achievement.

Meanwhile, he is three points in front of Charles Leclerc, who is as yet viewed as in the race for the title in spite of the reliability issues that have impacted his Ferrari as of late.

Moreover, Verstappen’s strong performances this season and Perez’s great form has put Christian Horner in a difficult spot. But, Horner claims that the balance of power between both the drivers is equal.
Formula 1: Sergio Perez has had a great run of form in the 2022 season.“The number one driver is the driver that’s ahead, it’s as simple as that. That’s why Checo got the call on the pit stop [in Monaco] – Max wouldn’t even have had track position for example on that lap. But, our fight isn’t between the two drivers, we’ve got a very competitive Ferrari with two fast drivers in it. Collectively as a team, we’ve got to take the fight and take the challenge to Ferrari, who are looking very quick this year.”
Meanwhile, Perez has been rewarded a new contract by Red Bull for his great performances and even Horner feels that the Mexican can go toe-to-toe with Verstappen. “Time and again he has proved himself to not only be a magnificent team player but, as his level of comfort has grown, he has become a real force to be reckoned with at the sharp end of the grid,” Horner concluded.
