Formula 1: Follow Formula 1 live updates – Rumours of Daniel Ricciardo being sacked by McLaren gathered pace after a rather disappointing outing in the Monaco GP. On Sunday, the Australian driver had yet another substandard show, and now, it seems likely that his team McLaren might be looking at other options.
Ricciardo finished P13 on Sunday, while his teammate Lando Norris did incredibly well to finish P6. With this, Ricciardo has now finishing outside points position for four races in a row. It was the third race in Australia where he finished P6, but besides that, he has not got any points to show for.

He is struggling in the eleventh position in the driver’s standings – four places behind Lando Norris. Many believe the Papaya Army will be looking to offload the Australian driver and former driver Ralf Schumacher is of the same opinion.
“The rumours as well as the statements in the team, are getting louder. He’s just too far away from his teammate. I’m curious how the future looks for him. It will be quite difficult for him. If it stays the way it is now, I don’t see him at McLaren next year,” Schumacher told Sky Germany after the race.

Meanwhile, McLaren CEO Zak Brown has himself sounded dissatisfied with Norris’ performance, as he has said “Lando definitely has an edge. We obviously would like to see Daniel much closer to Lando and have a good inter-team battle. Daniel is just not comfortable yet with the car. We are trying everything we can. Short of Monza [where Ricciardo won last year] and a few races, it has not met his or our expectations.”
Meanwhile, there have been subsequent rumours on the driver who can replace the honey badger. Some reports claim that McLaren are very interested in young Australian driver Colton Herta, who currently is driving for Andretti AutoSport in the IndyCar Series and is doing a phenomenal job.
