The Indian men’s cricket team will be led by batting legend and National Cricket Academy chairman VVS Laxman for the Asian Games 2023.
While the Indian women’s team will be led by former all-rounder Hrishikesh Kanitkar in an interim capacity for the Asian Games 2023, which will be held in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8.
At Alur, not far from Bangalore, VVS Laxman is currently in charge of a high-performance program for young Indian players.
In addition to Laxman, the Indian men’s side will have coaches for bowling and fielding in the form of former Indian leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule and Munish Bali.
The selection of the new head coach and the support staff for the Indian women’s team appears to have been postponed till the beginning of the new international home season in December.
Indian women’s team for the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in February was coached by Kanitkar, who participated in two Tests and 34 ODIs.
The other members of the coaching staff for the women’s team will be Subhadeep Ghosh, the fielding coach, and Rajib Dutta, the bowling coach.
Asian Games 2023: India Cricket Teams
After the Asia Cup 2023 competition is over, the Asian Games 2023 will start on September 19. After nine years, the Indian Cricket Team will compete in the Continental Games. The Asian Games were held in Jakarta in 2018, although neither the men’s nor women’s teams participated.
The first-choice players will be occupied with World Cup 2023 preparation, hence Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain India. Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Washinton Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Tilak Varma, and Ravi Bishnoi are all be included in the second-string team. All of these athletes will have a fantastic opportunity to perform well without senior players and make a case for the T20 World Cup 2024 roster.
The women’s squad, on the other hand, will be a full-strength unit under the direction of Harmanpreet Kaur. Due to their better ICC T20I rankings, both the men’s and women’s teams at the Asian Games 2023 will play from the quarterfinal round.
