Former Liverpool star, Luis Suarez, opened up about discussions he had with Darwin Nunez during the Uruguayan’s problems last season. Nunez joined the Merseyside for £85 million from Benfica, but he struggled in front of goal. Suarez, who is on international duty, stated that club executives called for the ex-Liverpool striker to consult with his fellow Uruguayan.
Despite joining Liverpool with a big reputation of scoring goals for fun, Darwin Nunez struggled in his first year in the Premier League. In all, he could only find the nets 15 times in 42 appearances. In Benfica, he scored 26 times in 28 appearances. This season, he Darwin Nunez seems to be finding his form back. He has netted 7 times in 12 appearances so far.
“When he had a bad time in Liverpool last year I spoke to him. In Liverpool they told me to talk to him, I warned him and told him what English football was,” Luis Suarez told to ESPN Argentina.
Nunez joined the Reds from Benfica in a club-record £85 million deal with add-ons in July 2022. During his first season at Anfield, the 24-year-old was in and out of form, scoring 15 goals and assisting four times in 42 games.
