The Hollywood duo of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have changed the club since taking charge in November 2020, as they finally got over the line and lifted the National League title and made automatic promotion to the English Fourth Tier.
After the game, Ryan Reynolds talked to the reporter, saying, ‘I’m not sure I can actually process what happened tonight, I’m still a little speechless,’
‘One thing that’s running through my head over and over again was at the beginning, people said ‘Why Wrexham, why Wrexham’; this is exactly why Wrexham, what’s happening right now, is why.’ he added
Reynolds and McElhenney were seen shedding tears of joy after the stadium roared at the sound of the full-time whistle.
‘I think we can hear how it feels to the town and that’s what’s most important for us – I think this is a moment of catharsis for them,’ McElhenney said.
‘For us to be welcomed into their community and to be welcomed into this experience has been the moment of my life.’
Before Wrexham captain Ben Tozer raised the National League trophy, the owners joined their squad on the pitch and embraced the players who had made their goal come true.
The city of Wrexham celebrated the promotion, with fans swarming the field after the game. For the community, which has been severely affected by the pandemic, the triumph has been viewed as a much-needed boost.
The town’s profile is being raised on a global level, with the success, and with involvement of the Hollywood duo. One of the first to congratulate them was David Beckham, who wrote on his Instagram stories: ‘This makes me very happy. What a story and what an achievement’.
