Lionel Messi achieved his lifelong dream after winning the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. And now the most important question – Will Messi play in FIFA World Cup 2026? The Argentina skipper claimed that there is still time for him to take a call. But the Inter Miami star is yet to rule out on a chance in leading Argentina once again in at the biggest stage in World Football.
Messi has made it clear that he needs to be realistic with himself. He said that he would take a call on his availability depending on his physicality. Age is also a factor. Currently 36, Messi would be 39 years old during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
“It depends on how I feel, how I am physically and being realistic with myself. And to know if I am up to the task of being able to compete and help the colleagues next to me. There’s a while left and I don’t know how I’m going to be at that moment,” Lionel Messi told Infobae.co.
“Age is also a reality that is there, although it is a number, the games that I am going to play, are not the same as the ones I played when I was in Europe in competition, which were every three days, or in the Champions League or in the League where I was, both in France and in Spain. But it depends on how I feel and how I feel when I’m next to my teammates and see if I’m still up to the task or not,” Messi concluded.
Focus on Copa America
Currently, the focus for Lionel Messi is on the upcoming Copa America. Led by Messi, Argentina will look to defend their title again. It also remains to be seen if Messi will participate in Paris Olympics 2024. Javier Mascherano, the Argentina U23 coach has asked Messi to be a part of the squad in Paris.
