Huge shoes to fill, Gianluca Di Marzio reveals Ancelotti’s successor at Real Madrid

A great deal of speculation is on about the possible successor of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Now, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who is at the forefront of transfers and is well-versed with happenings of the football world, has opened about the who can replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid in 2024. When Insidesport reached out to Di Marzio with some pertinent questions about the happenings in European football, the veteran scribe divulged details about news that has not seen the light of the day yet.

In an exclusive interaction with Insidesport, the Italian was asked about the Ancelotti’s replacement at Real Madrid. The Italian football manager is expected to leave the club at the end of the season. Multiple sources have backed Ancelotti to join as the manager of the Brazilian national team.

While Ancelotti joining Real Madrid might make Selecao fans happy, questions regarding who will succeed the multiple-UCL winning coach is doing the rounds.

According to Di Marzio, there are two contenders for the job: Xavi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi.

Xavi Alonso

According to Di Marzio, Alonso is the ‘ideal successor’ to the veteran coach for the 14 times UCL winners.

“Xabi Alonso is the ideal successor to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Because he’s young, he’s one of the coaches who are doing spectacularly with their teams and their style of play. He knows the Real Madrid world. He knows everything about Spain,” Di Marzio said.

“After this season I think Xabi will go and leave Leverkusen. If it’s not Real Madrid it may be AS Roma who can try to contact him in order to find another coach.

“Xabi Alonso will be one of the top targets of clubs that want to change,” he added.

Roberto De Zerbi

Another Italian coach Di Marzio is excited about is Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi. De Zerbi is already attracting a lot of attention due to Brighton’s attacking style of play. Di Marzio feels his fellow Italian can change the style of how Los Blancos plays.

“Obviously I’m Italian and I think Roberto de Zerbi can be another coach that can change the style of play at Real Madrid and follow the Italian dynasty of coaches at Real Madrid after Ancelotti.

Di Marzio also revealed that some big names of the the footballing world are talking about the Brighton manager.

“I know Fabio Capello talked to Butragueno some weeks ago and he said you have to follow De Zerbi, because he’s one to watch out for,” Di Marzio revealed.

“Then I don’t know if Real Madrid want to risk, even if I think it’s not early, to get De Zerbi now because after this year he will be the top target for English teams and Spanish clubs,” Di Marzio added.
