What songs have featured the most in Euro 2024 playlists?

A new study has unveiled the anthems most frequently featured in Spotify playlists curated by football fans for their European Football Championships viewing experience. Utilizing a playlist mining tool, the research analyzed public Spotify playlists with titles related to the Euro 2024. In total, 946 playlists comprising over 50,000 songs were examined to identify the top ten most featured tracks in Euro Cup.

Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home) tops Euro 2024 playlists

According to the survey conducted by Spades.co, leading the list is “Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home)” by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds. Originally released for England’s 1996 Euros campaign, this classic football anthem remains incredibly popular, appearing in 458 of the analyzed playlists, which accounts for 48% of them.

Following closely is “Freed From Desire” by Gala, Molella, and Phil Jay. This 1996 track experienced a resurgence in 2016 when it was adopted by football fans, particularly to celebrate Northern Ireland forward Will Grigg. It featured in 353 of the playlists, securing second place.

In third place is Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” a timeless stadium anthem since its 1969 release. It appeared in 299 of the playlists analyzed.

‘Southgate You’re the One’ makes surprise appearance

“World in Motion” by New Order, which includes a famous rap by England legend John Barnes, ranked fourth with 277 appearances. This song was originally produced for the 1990 World Cup. “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” by Baccara has become the anthem for the Tartan Army, following Scotland’s return to the Euros in 2020. It is featured in 238 playlists.

“Chelsea Dagger” by The Fratellis, another staple of sporting events, took sixth place with 214 appearances.”Southgate You’re the One (Football’s Coming Home Again)” by Atomic Kitten, a parody of their original track, ranked seventh with 178 features.

“Bitter Sweet Symphony” by The Verve, used as ITV’s intro song for England games, was eighth with 173 appearances. Ninth place went to “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers, a 1988 singalong anthem featured in 168 playlists. Finally, “Come On Eileen” by Dexys Midnight Runners, from their 1982 album Too-Rye-Aye, rounded out the top ten with 166 features.
