WATCH Real Madrid come up with unique corner routine vs Union Berlin in UCL

Real Madrid tries a fancy new corner routine vs Union Berlin in the Champions League

After seeing Real Madrid “invent a new corner routine” versus Union Berlin, spectators were in awe. Jude Bellingham scored a last-second winner in their debut Champions League match of the 2023–24 season. But before the goal, the La Liga giants were having a miserable evening. The 14-time European champions were kept at bay by the visitors from the Bundesliga, who were participating for the first time.

Real Madrid’s fancy new corner routine

Even though Real Madrid didn’t have the best evening, they didn’t give up. They went to some absurd measures to attempt to make a breakthrough. A new corner routine was there for everybody to see.

After earning a corner, Luka Modric approached to take it, but shortly teammate David Alaba joined him. The defender appeared to be trying to prevent the opponents from seeing what the Croatian was planning from the set-piece. He was doing so by standing virtually right next to him. Even before the interval, Real Madrid tried the technique again, but to no avail.

Additionally, the new strategy undoubtedly had backers online chatting. And the new tactic certainly got supporters talking online. One tweeted, ‘Real Madrid inventing new corner techniques.’ Another wrote, ‘Real Madrid’s corner kicks are like a box of chocolates – you never know what kind of surprise they’ll unwrap next.’ Another viewer asked, ‘What on earth is this about?’

But not everyone was as enthusiastic, with one fan tweeting, ‘And still can’t score , so it’s pointless.’ While another said, ‘Warra rubbish technique…’

Jude Bellingham provides Los Blancos with the winner again

Ultimately, it was a quick corner that made the difference. The Union Berlin defence slept off during the fifth minute of extra time. Federico Valverde was given room and time to fire from the edge of the box as a result.

Jude Bellingham was well positioned to score from two yards out for his sixth goal in six games for Madrid after his shot took many deflections. The Englishman had the final say by scoring against Union Berlin from one yard out. In his maiden outing for Real Madrid in Europe’s top club competition.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time, the £115 million midfielder scored, making up for an otherwise dismal evening at the Bernabeu. In the end, Bellingham, the sixth English player to represent Real Madrid in either the European Cup or Champions League, was called upon to save the day once more.

The England pivot took advantage of a rare blunder in the Berlin defence to celebrate one of his early career’s simplest goals. Real Madrid will be mighty pleased with Jude Bellingham’s start to the season. Los Blancos will be hoping that his rich vein of form continues.
