It has been the homecoming for Brazilian great Neymar. The star footballer signed a 6-month contract as he returned to join his boyhood club Santos. The Samba star was emotional on his homecoming, a move he made after terminating his contract with Saudi giants Al Hilal.
Santos presented Neymar with a gracious reception. The Brazilan star was drawn to tears on the reception. Neymar had previously spent 4 years at the club from 2009 to 2013 before moving to join Barcelona.
Homecoming for Neymar Jr
“The contract is for six months initially, but obviously we will do all we can that he remains with us. What we are hoping is that he remains with us until next year’s World Cup,” Santos’s vice-president Fernando Bonavides told Canal SporTV.
Neymar has got success in every team has played. But his short stint in the Saudi Pro League can’t be said the same. He left Barcelona in 2017 for a world-record fee to join French giants PSG. Then in August of 2023, he decided to switch to the Saudi league to join champions Al Hilal.
But his stay in Al Hilal was plagued with injuries. He had played just 7 matches with his side notching up just 1 goal in the process. In Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers, he suffered an ACL injury and was out of action for many months.
It has been an emotional return for Neymar to his boyhood club where is going to spend the next 6 months. Whether he signs a fresh contract in the upcoming summer remains to be seen.
