Watch: Lionel Messi sweats out to prepare for first full season at Inter Miami

Watch Lionel Messi sweat it off at gym during Inter Miami’s offseason.

After winning the Leagues Cup with the Herons in 2023, Lionel Messi isn’t taking a break! He’s been hitting the gym and the training pitch since returning from international duty with Argentina in November, and it looks like that won’t change soon. It will be Lionel Messi’s first full season at Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Lionel Messi is still on vacation following Inter Miami’s early exit from the MLS, but the Argentine star is not resting. During the MLS offseason, Argentina’s Lionel Messi was observed working out hard in the gym. In a brief clip, his wife Antonela Roccuzzo uploaded a video of his training.

“And that’s how you start Monday,” she captioned.

The Argentine international was spotted performing pull-ups in the gym Monday morning as a video of him surfaced on social networking site X. The Inter Miami star is currently in offseason mode with the Herons, and his national team has completed its calendar year. As a result, December is a month of rest and healing for the 36-year-old.

Messi conducted arm and chest strengthening barbell workouts throughout the brief video at a gym in Fort Lauderdale. The instructor then counted down the reps while adding weight to make it difficult.

Lionel Messi in MLS 2023:

Messi, who joined the team in Miami this summer on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, made an immediate impact on the pitch. The 36-year-old scored 10 goals in seven games as Miami won its first-ever Leagues Cup in 2023. He also led the squad to the U.S. Open Cup final. However,  hamstring injury forced Messi to miss many games late in the season, denying Miami a spot in the MLS playoffs.

The MLS season is coming to a conclusion, with MLS Cup only six days away. On Saturday, December 9, the Columbus Crew will face off against LAFC for the championship. The Herons will play a friendly against the El Salvador national team on January 19 to kick off their 2024 preseason. Until then, it’s all about campaign strategy.
