His eight Ballons d’Or are the most in football history, with long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo coming in second with five. And, on what would have been Argentina star Diego Maradona’s 63rd birthday, he paid tribute to him during his acceptance speech.
“Wherever you are, this is also for you. Happy birthday, Diego,” said Messi.
