Kylian Mbappe flares up with fans at Stade Brest

At Stade Francis-Le Ble, the French captain’s goal gave his team a 2-0 lead. But Brest pulled one back to tie the score at 2-2. Kylian Mbappe’s penalty attempt in the 89th minute was saved, But, as always, he was in the correct spot to score the rebound and give PSG the lead with his 250th goal for the team overall.

French sports journalist Bertrand Latour wrote on X, ‘A captain of the French team should not do that.’ Kylian Mbappe wasn’t going to keep quite on this. He replied, ‘Well of course and I should have even sang with them when they insulted my team-mate. Some have really never set foot on a football field regardless of the level….’

Who made the slur or whose teammate was the intended victim was not immediately apparent.

Build-up to Mbappe’s actions

Warren Zaire-Emery got the visitors off to a strong start with his right-footed strike into the corner after 16 minutes making it 1-0, 12 minutes before Mbappe doubled PSG’s advantage. Steve Mounie got a goal back for Brest two minutes before the half-time whistle. This was 12 minutes before Kylian Mbappe double PSG’s lead.

When Brest defender Lilian Brassier tackled substitute Randal Kolo Muani in the 85th minute, it resulted in a penalty kick that was given following a VAR check, setting up a late thriller. Many players on both teams received bookings as a result, as the event had the potential to overshadow a match in which there had been no yellow cards before to the foul.

Goalkeeper Marco Bizot of Brest stopped Mbappe’s penalty kick. But, the rebound fell kindly to the captain of the French football team, who slot it into the net. After scoring the goal, Kylian Mbappe started gesturing to the crowd. This action of his led him to get a yellow card too.

When he was substituted off the field, he was being jeered off by the home crowd. Kylian Mbappe, then seemed to be pointing to himself and gesturing that he had scored 2 goals in the game.

PSG’s late win keeps them second in the Ligue 1 table, a point behind league leaders Nice. They will be hoping that Mbappe continues his on-field form, as he has scored 12 goals in his last 12 games.
