WATCH | Keiran Trippier confronts Newcastle fan after defeat against Bournemouth

Keiran Tripper decided to involve himself in an altercation with a Newcastle fan who was unhappy with the defeat

Kieran Trippier was involved in a stand-off with a Newcastle supporter on Saturday. The incident took place after the club lost to Bournemouth in a Premier League fixture.

Following their 2-0 defeat at Vitality Stadium, Eddie Howe’s side paid tribute to their travelling fans who had to travel 700 miles to-and-fro to watch the game.

However, the England defender made his way to the far end of the pitch. Tripper decided to respond to a Newcastle fan who was unhappy with the defeat. Teammate Joelinton and a steward had to drag Trippier away eventually.

Responding to the angry fan, Trippier shouted: “Are the lads not giving everything? How many injuries have we got, how many injuries have we got? Hey?”

We were having a chat: Keiran Trippier

Trippier was asked about the incident after the match. He said: “It was just one of those where they were emotional and they have travelled far – we were having a chat.

A message to the fans we apologise for this result and the lads are giving everything in the circumstances the lads are in,” Trippier added.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who consoled Trippier after the row, added: “Kieran is fine. Emotions run high, we all feel a bit emotional after that from our perspective, but no problems.

“We thank all our away support. We value them greatly and that will have been tough for them to watch,” Howe added.

Howe also announced that Callum Wilson will not be involved in England’s next two World Cup qualifiers. Wilson sustained a leg injury against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
