Watch: India boss Igor Stimac meet Real Madrid star Luka Modric

During his vacation ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2023, Indian Football Team Head Coach Igor Stimac meets Croatian and Real Madrid Legend Luka Modric.

Igor Stimac, the head coach of the Indian football team, recently met with Croatian star Luka Modric. Stimac brought Modric to his Croatian house, where the current Croatia captain met the India coach’s two boys and presented him with autographed Real Madrid jerseys.

Stimac is taking a sabbatical in his home country after leading India to the SAFF Championship and Intercontinental Cup titles in 2023. India has qualified for the AFC Asian Cup, which will be contested in January-February of next year, under his leadership. India defeated Kuwait on penalties in the final at Bengaluru’s Kanteerava Stadium.

Stimac spoke to midfield maestro Luka Modric as a “friend,” “ex-player,” and “one of the greatest of all time.” On Twitter, he stated that his boys Ivan and Niko were overjoyed to have finally met their idol. It was a dream come true moment for them, wrote Stimac. The former defender characterized his meeting with Modric as a “happiness, joy, and tears” confluence.

Stimac, a bronze medalist for Croatia in the 1998 World Cup, and Real Madrid star Modric get along well. Stimac coached Modric throughout Croatia’s World Cup qualifying campaign for the 2014 tournament.

Modric was a member of the Croatian team that finished second in the 2018 World Cup and won bronze in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Stimac was named head coach of the Indian national team in 2019. Croatia captain Luka Modric wished his colleague Stimac well in his new position.
