Dismayed Everton supporters on Sunday gathered up in large numbers outside Goodison Park to protest against Premier League’s decision to dock 10 points off the Toffees. The 10-point penalty followed after Everton allegedly breached a Financial Fair Play regulation. Manchester City, who has 115 FFP breaches against their name, is still being investigated. They are yet to incur any kind of punishment, leading to the anger of the Everton fans.
Everton’s defiant protest
In the run-up to the club’s first game since their points deduction against Manchester United, fans took to the streets in protest. Everton supporters gathered in large numbers in front of the stadium with banners and flares.
The videos of the supporters show them singing the club’s anthem, while also chanting anti-Premier League slogans. Several Everton supporters were seen holding up pink cards featuring the Premier League badge with the words ‘Corrupt’ written on it.
A large banner was also seen in the rally with the message, “Where there is power, greed and money… There is corruption.”
There was also a big reaction inside Goodison Park before kick-off, with fans booing the Premier League anthem. They also raised their pink cards again in the tenth minute of the game, signifying the points deduction.
The points deduction left the Toffees 19th in the league table, five points adrift of safety ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United. On Friday, manager Sean Dyche described the points deduction as ‘unjust and disproportionate’. Although he claimed it would foster a strong mentality among his players.

“It’s disproportionate, it feels like it’s unjust. And there’s plenty of voices out there that feel the same. That said, what’s done is done for now – appeal pending – so we have to get on with it. That’s just the simple facts,” Dyche had said in the pre-match press conference.
