Watch: Austrian fans break baguettes to mock France supports ahead of Euro 2024 clash

The Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf will host Monday's closing Euro 2024 contest, featuring an intriguing Group D clash between in-form Austria and title favourites France

The Austrian fans took a page out of Albania supporter’s book as they mocked the French fans by breaking French baguettes in front of them ahead of France vs Austria EURO 2024 clash. Earlier, the Albania fans broke packs of spaghetti to irk the Azzurri supporters.

The Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf will host Monday’s closing Euro 2024 contest, featuring an intriguing Group D clash between in-form Austria and title favourites France. Austria, known as Das Team, have historically struggled at the continental championships, never advancing past the round of 16. In contrast, Les Bleus, with two Euro titles to their name, are looking to rectify past mistakes from three years ago.

Austria look to cause upsets in Euro 2024

Austria narrowly missed out on topping their qualifying group, finishing just one point behind Belgium. They secured six wins from eight matches, dropping only five points along the way. This marks Austria’s fourth appearance at the Euros. Their 2008 and 2016 campaigns ended without a single win, but they turned things around in 2020. Austria defeated North Macedonia and Ukraine in the group stages before a heartbreaking extra-time loss to eventual champions Italy. Their recent form suggests they could spring a surprise in Group D.

France look to reclaim glory in UEFA Euro Cup

France, on the other hand, have faced heartbreak in their last two major competitions despite their global triumph in Russia and a Nations League title three years ago. They have not won the European Championship in 24 years, a drought they aim to end on German soil.

Kylian Mbappe, before his high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid, experienced a dramatic fall from grace. His missed penalty against Switzerland led to France’s last-16 exit at Euro 2020. Then, at the World Cup in 2022, despite winning the Golden Boot, Mbappe was visibly disheartened as he collected his award following France’s loss to Argentina in the final.
