Villarreal hosted Real Madrid on Saturday and the teams split the points after a 0-0 draw. It was a tale of two halves as Villarreal and Real Madrid went head-to-head in a feisty clash at El Madrigal.
In front of a packed house, the hosts were the more threatening side during the opening 45 minutes and caused plenty of problems for the visitors. Carlo Ancelotti’s side struggled to get out of their own half.

Samuel Chukwueze and Arnaut Danjuma were lively (with the latter hitting the post) and Alberto Moreno called Thibaut Courtois into action. Real Madrid did have one chance to take the lead at the other end but Gareth Bale, who was playing his first game since August, couldn’t beat Gerónimo Rulli.
Coming out after the break, however, the visitors ramped up the pressure and it was Villarreal’s turn to sit back for a bit. Vinicius Junior saw an effort saved by Rulli while Bale had a chance cleared off the line and another hit the woodwork.

As time went on, desperate defending from both sides kept the match 0-0. In the dying seconds, Luka Jović saw his chip hit the bar to sum up a frustrating night for the league leaders. Real Madrid still hold a four-point lead at the top of the table but the performance will be a concern as the club prepares to face Paris Saint-Germain in a few days.
