Together with Canada and Mexico, the United States will host the men’s World Cup, and FIFA may grant those nations some Club World Cup matches. In June–July 2025, the Club World Cup will take place. During a FIFA Council meeting held online, the United States was selected as the host country.

Since 2005, the World Cup has been held every year in a seven-team, or occasionally six-team, format with the six continental winners of the previous year plus, if necessary, a representation of the host nation. In February, FIFA made the expanded format official.
