‘Unbelievable’ India skipper Sunil Chhetri enjoying parenthood to the fullest

Being a parent is a life changing experience according to many, and Indian Football team captain Sunil Chhetri is no exception. In an interview in FIFA’s official website, Chhetri opened up about what it means to him being a father.

“For the first five days, I didn’t sleep because of excitement,” Sunil Chhetri said when asked about how he felt being a father.

“I was awake the whole night just looking at him and talking to him. Then on the sixth day my wife told me I had to sleep in a different room as she was worried I was too tired and was going to get injured.

“It’s such an experience which can only be felt. Once you hold your baby, it is unbelievable. When I held my son for the first time, everything about you changes, the way you think about life changes.

Being a footballer is never easy. Besides playing a physically exhausting sport, there’s a lot of travelling involved. Sunil Chhetri admitted that he is in a hurry nowadays to reach home since the birth of his son.

“I just want to go back home wherever I am. Whenever I am going for an away trip, I just want to finish the games and go back home.”

While Sunil Chhetri is extremely happy with parenthood, there’s no stopping Chhetri the footballer. The Bengaluru FC striker will lead India to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Chhetri has scored 93 goals for India and is the 4th in the all-time international scorer’s list. He will be looking to add some more goals to his kitty in the qualifiers.
