The home side took a surprise lead with just four minutes on the clock when Jakub Pešek netted easily from close range after his side’s attacking trio easily beat Spain’s offside trap to swarm down on goal.

William Carvalho put them ahead after 15 minutes when he reacted quickest from four yards to turn the ball home after a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick was parried into this path.

But the Manchester United man wouldn’t be denied for long and he doubled his side’s lead after tenacious work from clubmate Bruno Fernandes to win the ball back high, allowing the ball to be cut back for Ronaldo to slam home.

A second swiftly followed for the striker four minutes with a tap-in following some generous Swiss defending before João Cancelo made it four after the interval when he deftly nutmegged goalkeeper Gregor Kobel on the edge of his area after he came a long way and then calmly rolled into the empty net.
